Microanalysis is a mineralogical approach using microscopy to determine the nature of dust particles in the atmosphere.
The aim of the project is to see the contribution of the different emission sources, to distinguish between natural and anthropogenic sources, to differentiate between natural, primary and secondary particles, and also to quantify the different particle families.
The methods used are X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy coupled with X-ray energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM/EDX) and, in some cases, transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Several sites where high dust levels have been measured by network stations have been studied and the origin of pollution sources identified.
