Chronic Risks, Including Environmental Health Risks
Humans and ecosystems are exposed to harmful substances present in the environment. Drawing on our expertise in environmental characterization, we work to better understand these environments, identify pollution sources and transfers between them, and limit these exposures and the resulting risks.
We also offer our expertise in assessing the risks associated with exposure to electromagnetic fields, including 5G. To address the concerns of public authorities and citizens, we develop participatory science studies. We are also the Walloon organization that developed the very first program to establish reference values for the exposure of Walloons to emerging and established pollutants and chemicals, such as Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
Subsurface Risks
Geological and mining risks present specific dangers such as collapses, water contamination, and gas leaks. We monitor these risks to ensure the safety of citizens and ecosystems.
Accidental Risks
The accidental risks component carries out certifications for fire/explosion risks, deals with the implementation of fuel oil tank management, post-disaster assessments, risk assessments of dangerous installations, and the delimitation of zones around Seveso sites.
“Thanks to the data we provide, environmental policy decisions are geared towards the well-being and security of future generations and the prevention of climate risks. As a result, we are also a key and responsive partner in crisis and post-crisis management.”
